As more and more National League pitchers dropped out of participating in the All-Star Game this week — Zack Wheeler included — the absence of Phillies starters Ranger Suárez and Cristopher Sánchez from the roster became more and more glaring.
Philadelphia Phillies players were up in arms that Christopher Sanchez or Ranger Suarez weren't named All-Star Game replacements, but their outrage is completely unwarranted once you understand the facts.
As it turns out, the Phillies could have had another All-Star pitcher this season. Ranger Suárez was apparently asked to be an All-Star, but he declined the invitation to rest according to Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
It’s Friday, July 11 and the Phillies (54-39) are in San Diego to take on the Padres (50-43). Ranger Suárez is slated to take the mound for Philadelphia against Ryan Bergert for San Diego.
The Philadelphia Phillies are predicted to lose star pitcher Ranger Suarez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a potential trade.
