After a sonic boom from a meteor shook houses across the Northeast early Saturday afternoon, NASA said Sunday the meteorite landed in Cape Cod Bay.

A daytime meteor exploded high over New England on Saturday, producing a loud boom heard across much of eastern Massachusetts and leaving evidence that fragments likely splashed down in Cape Cod Bay.

A meteor traveling 75,000 mph exploded over the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border, rattling homes and startling millions. Any debris likely landed in Cape Cod Bay.

After thousands called 911 over concerns from an Earth-shaking boom in Massachusetts, NASA is saying the sound was caused by a meteor entering the atmosphere.

Several people filed reports with the US Geological Survey registered the shaking with the National Earthquake Information Center, according to an agency spokesperson.
