Ninth-ranked Minnesota won six matches, including three of the first five by bonus points, and dropped No. 4 Iowa, 21-16, Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

IOWA CITY − Iowa wrestling suffered another tumble this dual season, falling 21-16 to Minnesota at home on Friday. The Hawkeyes lost six of 10 bouts to Minnesota, including by major decision at 125, 141 and 157 pounds.

No. 4 Iowa men’s wrestling fell, 21-16, to No. 9 Minnesota on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The loss marks head coach Tom Brands’ first loss to the Gophers since the 2013-14 season.  Two bright spots for Iowa were 133-pounder Drake Ayala’s dominant 21-6 win by technical fall and Michael Caliendo’s 18-5 major decision.

No. 12 Vanderbilt lost to Iowa 34-27 on Dec. 31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl despite a 347-yard passing game from Diego Pavia.

Jada Williams scored 23 points and Iowa State pulled away in the second half to defeat UCF 65-52 on Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. Williams shot 11 of 21 from the field and added five assists and four rebounds as the Cyclones improved to 18-5 overall and 6-5 in Big 12 play.

Woods scores 33 points and rallies the Trojans from a 17-point second-half deficit, but Iowa’s Bennett Stirtz makes two free throws with 4.6 seconds left and the Hawkeyes hold on for a 73-72 win.
