President Donald Trump has ramped up expectations around a possible 60-day ceasefire in the war in Gaza after he said Thursday that a response from Hamas was expected within the next day.

Hamas said it had responded on Friday in "a positive spirit" to a U.S.-brokered Gaza ceasefire proposal and was prepared to enter into talks on implementing the deal which envisages a release of hostages and negotiations on ending the conflict.

President Donald Trump said a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas may be reached next week, following what he described as a “positive” response from the Palestinian resistance group to a US proposal, media reports said Friday.
